Documentary of David A. Smith- Sign Painter
I saw this on OMG Posters and I was drooling from the first second to the last of this short documentary on professional sign painter David A. Smith. It’s absolutely mind blowing how precise he is and how elegant his work is. David is part of an extremely rare breed that I’m glad is at least still around for me to get inspired by. Enjoy.
Brooklyn Invitational Bike Show!!
Totally kick balls bike show today. The 2nd Annual Brooklyn Invitational Custom Motorcycle Show. Not a billion Discovery Channel looking baggers and hot dog carts. Just the most raw and ridiculous custom classy ass machines. Fuckers actually rode all the way from California for this show so you know it’s no joke.
Even better is the fact that it’s 3 blocks from my front door. Even...

Websites for Posterphiles
All of us at The Black Axe are huge poster nerds. It’s an ideal way to own a quality piece of art on the cheap while directly supporting the artist who created it. Whether you’re a collector or just an appreciator of nice looking things, here’s a compiled list of my favorite spots on the web to both check out and score amazing posters.

Todd Schorr
I’ve been admiring Todd Schorr’s work for a really long time now and I still love seeing his process on painting with acrylic paints. Check out these videos after the break where he explains his technique, processes and where he gets his inspiration from.

It's Like A Clockwork Orange, But in Spanish
This weekend my girlfriend and I took a bike ride to the National Mall. On the way, we stopped by an outdoor market in Georgetown and found some really interesting posters.
The first booth specialized in silk screened movie posters by Cuban artists. These posters were created either for a movie, or in celebration of a particularly famous movie. The subject movies were from various countries, but...

TransformManager for AS3
Working on a recent Flash/ActionScript 3 project, I got a chance to use an amazing library by GreenSock (the makers of arguably the best tweening engines, TweenLite and TweenMax) called TransformManager. As the name implies, TransformManager is an incredibly easy way to interactively move, scale, skew, and rotate DisplayObjects in ActionScript 3.
For me, the coolest part of TransformManager is...

Gridulator
Here’s another useful little diddy for you web dudez. If you’re like me, you like to start off laying out a new web project with some sort of grid (if you aren’t like me, you really should, it makes things a lot easier), you know how annoying it can be to do all the math and what not when setting up your document.
Gridulator has your back. You just plug in the width of your...
